Manakaar farm is located in a mountain village which is an hour away from the nearest town, Almora. It is advisable that you plan your visit well in advance to ensure that you have all that you need to experience a comfortable stay. These FAQs try to answer some of the common queries. Where exactly are we located?
We are situated at village Salla, 15 Kms ahead of Almora. Village Salla is on the the farther end of Kasardevi ridge, while driving from Almora to Binsar, via Kasardevi. Binsar sanctuary gate is 7 Kms ahead from the main road.
Talking about Almora, it is a district headquarters and approximately 90 Kms from Haldwani /Kathgodam. If one is driving down from Delhi then we are approximately 390 Kms away.
Can one drive down to the farm?
We are 1.5 Kms from the main road, connected via kuchcha road. While small cars and SUVs can make it, it is best to avoid sedans. The road is not very good hence driving can get tricky during the rainy season.
How is the weather?
Summers are pleasant and breezy, even then it is advisable to carry a jacket /sweater because if it rains for a day or two, the evening and nights can get chilly. Even during winters, the days are bright and sunny however we do reach subzero temperatures during the peak winter nights.
What essentials should one carry to the farm?
As the nearest town in an hour away, please do carry your prescribed medicines and any other essentials which may generally not be available in rural shops. We will help arrange the groceries but if you prefer any particular brand of food produce, spices, etc. which may not be available locally then please do bring it along.
How far is the nearest hospital?
The nearest hospitals are in Almora town, which has three government hospitals – the district hospital, the mahila hospital and the base hospital, which is also a medical college. In case of emergencies which cannot be addressed in Almora, patients are referred to Haldwani (approx. 90 Kms) which has many government and private hospitals with most modern medical amenities.
Is the stay safe?
Even though it is a remote location, It is safe and secure. But one has to be slightly careful of wild animals hence, venturing out after dark is not advisable.
Do we have food supplies in the farm?
We do conventional farming so some seasonal vegetables are available. Otherwise, most of the vegetables supplies come from the local market. Buffalo and cow milk is available in the village. So are eggs – conventional as well as brown eggs.
One has to go to Almora town for meat and fish supplies. One can also get frozen supplies in the town, though all brands are not available.
